Anaesthesiology

The department of Anaesthesia and chronic pain at YMCH consists of team of highly skilled and experienced Anaesthesiologists that aim to provide quality and safe anaesthesia to patients in the peri operative period. The department is one of the oldest in the Medical College established in 1999. 18 operating rooms with NABH standards function 24X7 delivering anaesthesia services to speciality and super specialities such as cardiac, robotic, transplant, neuro surgery, vascular, infertility, cath lab, MRI etc. A team also attends to the surgical and medical intensive care units and pain clinics where chronic pain is relieved through interventional and non interventional treatment.

Our optimal aim is to provide a pain free post operative period with novel regional anaesthetic techniques. We also focus on specialized trauma care with on arrival nerve blocks.

The postgraduate intake per year is 9, who have opportunity to learn in a very structured and literate environment. The department has robust teaching programme comprising of seminar, case discussions, journal clubs and innovative teaching methods using state of the art simulation lab and high fidelity mannequin. The progress of students is periodically evaluated and guidance provided. The faculty and students are actively involved in research work and have publications in various national and international journals. The students take part in cultural and sports related events ensuring overall development including leadership skills.

The department of Anaesthesia was established in the year 1999. Since then we are administering Anaesthesia to patients who are undergoing surgical procedures from various departments. We are also taking care of the surgical and medical intensive care units. Pain relief is provided by interventional pain management techniques for the patients who are having chronic pain due to various diseases. The postgraduate courses were started in 2005 and each year 9 students are joining to pursue their anaesthesia postgraduation. The Department of Anaesthesia has an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. This is complemented by research by postgraduates guided by faculty members.

We are having eighteen state of the art Operation theaters which are well equipped to provide safe anaesthesia for various surgeries which includes Robotic assisted surgeries, Transplant surgeries, Onco surgery, Neurosurgery , Gastrointestinal surgery, Joint replacement surgeries and also for MRI, CT Scan, IVF, Cath Lab, Brachy therapy and endoscopic procedures.

Many conditions are imitated in simulation lab to give trainees practice in patient management before encountering these challenges in a clinical context.
