Geriatric Medicine

Department of Geriatric Medicine became an independent department on 01-01-2017, offering the following services which include clinical services, contribution to Geriatric MBBS education (Teaching the 22 geriatric competencies) conducting MD Geriatric Medicine, Certificate course in Palliative care course with Emphasis on Geriatrics, Certificate Course in Music Therapy for Health Professionals, Post Doctoral Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine.

Department has started NMC approved MD Course in Geriatric Medicine from the year 2022 (1 st institution in Karnataka to get this approval). Geriatric services of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) was recognised by the Govt of Karnataka by a State award in 2018. Department has a multidisciplinary team comprising of Geriatric Medicine faculty, a Geriatric Physiotherapist, Dietician, Social Worker and a team of trained nurses.

  • MediAcion Germany for providing geriatric palliative therapy course.
  • Assistance to the district administration in NPPC (National Programme for Palliative Care) & NPHCE (National Programme for Health Care of Elderly).
  • Collaboration with other universities inside and outside the state for interuniversity PG teaching programme.
  • Collaboration with Geriatric Society of India in providing Certificate course in Geriatric Medicine & Gerontology.
  • Networking with all NGO’s caring for the elderly through PAGE (Peoples Association for Geriatric Empowerment).
  • Memory testing - for all the senior citizens during the month of September in association with PAGE.
  • Home care visits - within a radius of 30 KM.
  • Telemedicine services at concession rate.
  • Active ageing programme, including very active online programme and WhatsApp group.
